Choosing a Walt Disney World Resort can feel overwhelming. There are more than 25 on-site resorts, spread across different price points, themes, locations, and transportation options. What works perfectly for one family might feel completely wrong for another.

Before I ever recommend a resort to my clients, I always start with three key questions. These answers help me narrow down the options and make sure your resort actually supports the kind of vacation you want.

1. How much time do you realistically plan to spend at your resort?

This might sound like a simple question, but it makes a huge difference.

Some families treat their resort as a place to sleep and shower between long park days. Others plan resort days, pool afternoons, and relaxed mornings with no alarms.

If you are planning:

  • Rope drop to fireworks park days

  • Minimal downtime

  • Mostly quick meals and snacks

A Value or Moderate resort may be a great fit.

If you want:

  • Pool days and midday breaks

  • Dining at your resort

  • Space to relax without feeling rushed

A Moderate or Deluxe resort can dramatically improve your experience.

There is no right or wrong answer here. The goal is matching your resort to how you will actually vacation, not how you think you should vacation.

2. Which parks matter most to your family?

Not all resorts are created equal when it comes to park access.

I always ask my clients which parks they care about most, because transportation can shape your entire trip.

For example:

  • Families who prioritize EPCOT and Hollywood Studios often love resorts along the Skyliner or BoardWalk area.

  • Magic Kingdom focused trips may benefit from monorail or boat access.

  • Families with young kids who need midday breaks usually do better with faster, simpler transportation.

When you are traveling with children, shorter travel times can mean fewer meltdowns and more energy for fun. Transportation convenience is one of the most overlooked parts of resort selection, but it matters more than people expect.

3. What kind of atmosphere do you want to come back to at night?

After a long park day, the vibe of your resort really matters.

Some families want:

  • Bright colours and larger-than-life Disney theming

  • High energy pools and lots of activity

  • A very playful, kid-forward atmosphere

Others prefer:

  • Quieter evenings

  • Beautiful grounds and subtle Disney details

  • A more relaxed, resort-style feel

Neither option is better. They are just different experiences.

This question helps me avoid recommending a resort that technically fits your budget but does not match your family’s personality. Your resort should feel like a place you enjoy being, not just a place you sleep.

Why These Questions Matter

Anyone can book a Walt Disney World resort. The real value comes from choosing the right one for your family.

These three questions help me narrow down options quickly, avoid common regrets, and create a vacation that feels smoother, calmer, and more enjoyable. My goal is not to put you in the most expensive resort or the most popular one. It is to put you in the one that fits your family best.

If you are planning a Walt Disney World vacation and feeling stuck on where to stay, I would love to help. Resort selection is one of my favourite parts of the planning process, and it can make a bigger difference than most people realize.
